Rev. Dr. Eugen Pentiuc Published in Romania
The Romanian translation of Rev. Dr. Eugen Pentiuc's book The Old Testament in Eastern Orthodox Tradition has just been released by Renasterea Press. First published by Oxford University Press in 2014, the book is one of many important works by Fr. Pentiuc, Archbishop Demetrios Professor of Biblical Studies and Christian Origins at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. The official launch of the translation took place on April 18 at the Gaudeamus International Book Fair in Cluj, Romania, Fr. Pentiuc's native country. Hellenic College Holy Cross President, Father Christopher Metropulos, DMin, announced his resignation today. “I was proud to serve HCHC for the past four years. I will forever be honored and humbled by the opportunity to have served alongside our terrific faculty, staff, and students,” said Father Metropulos. On March 14, 2019, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) honored Hellenic College Holy Cross at its annual conference with a Silver Excellence Award in the Video Fundraising category for its 2018 Day of Giving video. CASE is a professional association serving educational institutions and advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and allied areas. OVM Hosts CrossRoad Alumni Retreat
The Office of Vocation & Ministry welcomed 65 CrossRoad alumni from across the United States back to campus on April 12 for a three-day retreat. CrossRoad is the OVM's very popular summer program for high school juniors and seniors wanting to engage more deeply with their faith and with other young Orthodox Christians. Since its first session fifteen years ago, CrossRoad has expanded to two annual sessions at HCHC and, as of last year, to a third session in Chicago. Holy Cross Seminarians Spend Spring Break in Ireland
For most Bostonians, Irish or not, St. Patrick's Day is an annual celebration highlighted by parades and beer-fueled revelry. For three Holy Cross seminarians, however, St. Patrick's Day 2019 marked the beginning of a trip to Ireland for more serious reasons: to engage with the Orthodox community of Dublin, visit holy sites around the country, and introduce Orthodox thought and worship at University College Cork, part of the National University of Ireland. HCHC Students Lead Mission Trip to Kenya
Dean and Xenia Franck, both in the Master of Divinity program at Holy Cross, were part of a team of HCHC students who spent their spring break in western Kenya. Dean had already been to Kenya a number of times and the couple spent two months there together last summer, an experience that gave them an idea. "After visiting St. Tabitha's Orphanage and School," Xenia explains, "we decided to organize a team to go do some teaching and build a chicken coop." HCHC Seminarians Attend Lenten Retreat
All HCHC seminarians, in both the College and the School of Theology, gathered for an overnight Lenten retreat March 29-30 at the St. Methodios Faith and Learning Center in Contoocook, New Hampshire. The students had the blessing of hearing guest speakers who included His Grace Bishop Ilia of Philomelion, HCHC President Rev. Fr. Christopher Metropulos, Dean of Students Rev. Fr.
